The American Glass Guild is excited to organize its first Juried Members Exhibit concurrent with our seventh annual conference, to be held at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA, July 20-22, 2012. The exhibit will be one of the highlights of the conference, with an opening reception and unveiling scheduled for the morning of July 20, 2012. Noted historian Virginia Raguin will organize the jury.
One mission of the AGG is to create opportunities to enhance the public’s appreciation of the medium of stained glass and to inspire our members to show the best of their artwork. Though this exhibit will be up for only 3 days, our aim in the future is to arrange longer shows at galleries and other venues, and for that to happen we must show that we have an ambitious track record.
Planning has already begun for the 2013 show in St. Augustine, which will be up approximately one month and, depending on the available space there, we hope to include some of the works accepted into the Pittsburgh show, while also jurying a new show. Artists can build their resumes and clientele by exposure and publicity as part of our juried shows. We have many passionate and serious artists in our organization and we want the world to see their exciting work.
We invite all American Glass Guild members to submit a Design Concept in the form of a drawing/sketch/watercolor (the panel does NOT have to be finished to submit a concept), along with 5 digital images representative of your work. Please see submission guidelines below.
WE ALSO PLAN TO HAVE A SEPARATE, NON-JURIED EXHIBIT IN ONE OF OUR MEETING ROOMS, NOT IN THE PUBLIC AREA OF THE HOTEL. More information on that will be in the next newsletter.
The show will be in a public area of a beautiful, historic hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, where it will be viewed by guests and the public. We have plans to promote the show online, in print, and in other venues. The juried works will be exhibited on a balcony above an entrance and between our meeting areas. The curtains will be removed for the exhibit and we are building custom racks so daylight will be coming through the stained glass and not around it.The public will be able to view the show from the ground floor and conference goers will have access to the balcony. Artists should consider the viewing distance when designing.
The show will be installed on Thursday afternoon, July 19, and will come down after 12PM on Sunday, July 22, 2012. All panels must remain in the show until then. The artists are responsible for picking up their panels at the end of the exhibit.
If you would like to have your panel included in the American Glass Guild Auction, which benefits the Whitney Scholarship Fund and our educational programs, this can be arranged. If you would like to sell your piece, AGG will handle the sale, with a 25% commission, which will go to the AGG educational program fund. There is no obligation to sell or donate.
