     John M. Raynal

                                                           Owner Raynal Studios, LLC

I am a native Virginian, whose father is a Presbyterian minister. My earliest memories include the stained glass windows in his churches.

I studied engineering at Virginia Tech 1977 to 1978, taking a year off from college turned into 30years when I was hired as a laborer on a traveling road crew for a large stained glass company. Over the years, I progressed from an apprentice, master craftsman to project manager on multi-million dollar projects.

In 1991, desiring a more active family life and the realization that it is more important to do it right than to do it quickly, led to the formation of Raynal Studios, LLC. My primary focus has always been the conservation and restoration of the historic stained glass and its settings.

My restoration philosophy is to conserve when possible but, when restoration is necessary to always restore to entire window system (stained glass, cut stone, wood framing, etc.). A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.

Raynal Studios has been an active member of the SGAA since 1992 with full accreditation since 2000. I have been certified in cut stone restoration by Cathedral Stone Corporation of Washington, DC since 1992.

My restoration experience includes projects such as, The Cadet Chapel, West Point Military Academy, Princeton University Chapel, Princeton, NJ, The Cadet Chapel VMI, Lexington, VA, The George C. Marshall Museum as well as, the reproduction of fired and etched glass for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
