Call for PapersThe submission deadline has passed for the 2009 conference. Please submit your paper and join us for our 2010 Conference in Detroit! Deadline November 15, 2008 The American Glass Guild’s Board of Directors is seeking proposals for lectures and panels from artists, craftspeople, studios, conservatorss and historians for the group's fourth annual meeting to be held July 17-19, 2009 at the Hyatt Hotel in downtown Buffalo, NY. Buffalo has a rich history of architecture and stained glass, including Frank Lloyd Wright’s spectacular Darwin Martin House and is 15 minutes from Niagara Falls (bring your passport!). There will be a day of pre-conference workshops on July 16th and a day of post-conference touring on July 20th. The conference will present papers on the many different aspects those working in the field are faced with, including: new design, technique, conservation, history of the medium and its practitioners, related materials, and business practices. The deadline for proposal submissions is November 15th, 2008. Proposed presentations should be 20 or 40 minutes in length with additional time for questions. We are also interested in three-hour workshops that will run the day before the meeting. Please consider sharing your work, insights, and interesting projects with your colleagues. Abstracts should be submitted by email to the 2009 AGG Program Chair, Mary Clerkin Higgins, at mc.higgins@rcn.com by November 15th, 2008. They should include a title and be no longer than 300 words. Authors should include a bio and full contact information for themselves (name/company, mailing address, phone, fax, website, and email address) and if a panel is proposed, for the other panel members. The program committee will send notification of acceptance by December 15, 2008. We are also planning to publish a Preprint of the presentations as we did this past year (available on our website for $20). Finished papers must be submitted by April 30, 2009 for the Preprint. The mission of the AGG is to provide an open forum for the exchange of information on stained, leaded and decorative glass and its creation preservation, restoration, and history. Our intention is to work toward building an environment within the field that both cultivates novices and facilitates experienced artists and craftspeople to attain a higher level of expertise. Our well-received conferences include presentations, round-table discussions, and demonstrations by notable national and international experts. Information on past conferences is available on our website at http://www.americanglassguild.org/. Questions or comments should be directed by email to mc.higgins@rcn.com. We also welcome suggestions for topics on which you would like to hear presentations. Please feel free to distribute this announcement to any interested colleagues. We look forward to seeing you in Buffalo! |
