Helmut Schardt

 Hands-On Workshop:
Dalle de Verre

We will view sketches and designs of glass cast in Epoxy. We will review the tools needed and there will be hands on cutting and chipping of glass dalles after designs provided. We will mix and pour the Epoxy matrix between the glass pieces to create finished panels.

About Helmut Schardt

Helmut Schardt was born in Germany. In 1951 he began an apprenticeship in glass craft in the town of Hof, Bavaria. After obtaining a Masters Certificate from the Craft Association (Handwerkskammer) in Hamburg, he left Germany to travel and pursue employment in Iceland. In 1958 Schardt immigrated to the United States where he concentrated exclusively on art and stained glass, finding employment first at Dohmen Studio in St. Paul, MN and then Durham and Duval Studios in NYC. He became workshop foreman at Duval Studios, where some of the first US commissions in faceted glass cast in epoxy were executed.

In 1967 he opened his own studio and until 2003 executed commissions for a number of well-known artists completing installations throughout the US and in Puerto Rico and Honduras.
