WORK EXPERIENCE
Laurie Wells joined Summit Restoration in 1985 as an estimator and project coordinator primarily in the field of historic building preservation. In 1989 the company was expanded to include Old World Stone as a fabricator of dimensional cut stone.  Her work includes surveying, reporting, estimating, specification preparation, client liaison and project co-ordination. Relevant major projects and duties provided with Summit Restoration and Old World Stone include:

ARRISON RESIDENCE, BUFFALO, NY

Estimator, field dimensioning and project coordinator for replacement of ornate precast concrete with custom cut Indiana limestone.  This complex project involved classical detailing on an architecturally significant property.

ST JUDE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, OAKVILLE, ON

In July of 2002 a large fragment of stone tracery fell from the rose window.  Emergency work entailed scaffolding, stabilization and dismantling of the entire window.  Extensive repairs and replacement units were fabricated and installed prior to re-glazing of the window.

CHRIST’S CHURCH CATHEDRAL, HAMILTON, ON

The Ascension window over the altar had deteriorated over the years and required repointing, cleaning, and re-leading of the stained glass.   New tempered storm glazing will protect the valuable window for years to come.

METROPOLITAN UNITED CHURCH, TORONTO, ON

The west transept window became unstable when the underlying structure shifted.  Scaffolding was erected and the stained glass was removed for cleaning and re-leading.  The stone tracery was repointed, new units were installed and the stone was cleaned on the interior and the exterior.  Monitoring of the east transept is ongoing and future repairs are anticipated.

HEINRICH HEINE MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN, THE BRONX, NEW YORK
Project supervisor and conservator for the restoration of a 40 tonne white Carrara marble monument of the "Lorelei". Cleaning, injection, pinning, sculpting and coating was required on this severely vandalized piece of public art.
