Helmut Schardt

I was born in Germany in 1935 and started apprenticeship in the glass
craft in the town of Hof in Northern Bavaria in 1951. After obtaining a
master certificate from the Craft Association (Handwerkskammer) in Hamburg
I left Germany to pursue employment in Iceland. I immigrated to the US in
1958 where I concentrated my efforts exclusively to art and stained glass
with employment at Dohmen Studio in St. Paul, MN and Durham- and Duval
Studios in NYC. I was studio foreman at Duval Studios, where we executed
some of the first commissions in faceted glass cast in epoxy in the US.
In 1967 I opened my own studio where I executed commissions for artists
and Interior Firms until 2003, when I retired. At that point I had
manufactured and installed art glass windows for churches and synagogues
for 45 years in this country.
