Judith Schaechter

"Making Chicken Salad Out of Chickensh*t"

A presentation and group discussion on the topic of developing ideas from subject matter to material concerns.  What constitutes an "idea" anyway?  And how does that go through the stages from inception, incubation to manifestation in actual matter?  In terms of stained glass itself, what approaches are relevant these days about 600 years after stained glass burst on the scene as the most exciting "special effects" available?  Judith will discuss her approaches to these age-old dilemmas and there will be opportunity to dialogue and share on the topic.

Judith Schaechter has worked in stained glass for 35 years since graduating from Rhode Island School of Design.  Her work is collected internationally and is represented in such museums as The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian.

Judith's work was included in the 2002 Whitney Biennial, a collateral exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2012 and she is a 2008 USA Artists Rockefeller Fellow. In 2013 Judith was inducted to the American Craft Council College of Fellows.
