Amway Grand Plaza Hotel - Grand Rapids

For 2023, the AGG has partnered with the Visual Arts Center of Richmond to host our  biggest selection of pre-conference workshops to date. Check out our workshops page for a list of classes. These filled up fast, so check out what you missed!

We have two dynamic Keynote speakers this year:

Cappy Thompson & Sarah Brown!

Cappy Thompson is an internationally recognized Seattle artist known for her mytho-poetic narratives on glass using the grisaille (or gray-tonal) painting technique. She has been an artist in residence at Pilchuck Glass School and is a recipient of the school's Libensky award. Her best-known public works are Dreaming of Spirit Animals at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Gathering the Light in the lobby of the Museum of Glass in Tacoma.

Professor Sarah Brown is the Director of the York Glaziers Trust, a conservation charity and Britain’s oldest specialist stained-glass conservation studio. She led the team that conserved York Minster’s Great East Window and now directs the Minster’s Twenty-Year Plan for Stained Glass Conservation.  Sarah combines this with her role as the course director of the University of York’s MA in Stained Glass Conservation and Heritage Management, the only graduate course of its kind in the English-speaking world. She is general secretary of the Corpus Vitrearum/ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for the Conservation of Stained Glass, and president of the Corpus Vitrearum (Great Britain).

Rounding out the schedule of lectures, included will be artist talks from Nancy Gong, Rob Cooper, Ellen VanDijk, and Wayne Cain, who will speak about their inspiration and techniques.  Conservation, research and history topics  will be presented by Drew Anderson, Lindsy Parrott, Brianne VanVorst, and Jennifer Booher.  AGG treasurer Tony Serviente will provide a thorough guideline to lead safety in the stained glass studio. We are also pleased to welcome Tamah Graber, president of the National Capital Art Glass Guild, to speak on behalf of her guild.

We look forward to seeing everyone for an exciting event of workshops, demonstrations , lectures, and great opportunities to socialize with fellow glass enthusiasts.
