Thursday August 6th 9:000AM - 4:30PM The Gil Studio Single Day Workshop In this class we'll go over the basic elements, concepts, and glass painting techniques with high-fire vitreous pigments, gum arabic, and water. Each student will paint the same simple images, focusing on: - Line Work - Matt Applications - variations of opacity, textures, gum arabic ratios, and stenciling - Type of brushes and hairs, and their appropriate uses - How to cut, burn, and shape scrub brushes - Kiln firing schedules - Safety precautions for painting with heavy metals and particulates. Questions will be encouraged, and other topics will be discussed, though not explored hands on, such as low-fire enamels, silver stain, and alternative media. Come with some knowledge, or none, and you will leave with enough understanding to continue on your own. Paints, images, glass, and some brushes will be provided. Bring your own brushes if you have them. Retailer lists will be provided for where to purchase brushes, pigments, and other tools during the class. Melissa Janda was bitten by the glass bug over 30 years ago, and has worked in the industry ever since. Adept at all aspects of stained glass production, her specialty is glass painting. She has been with Willet Stained Glass Studios since 2014, and is currently the Head Painter and Director of Art Production. Melissa received her BFA in Drawing and Illustration from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1993. She began her professional experience with glass at Conrad Schmitt Studios. She has also worked for several studios in Chicago and Milwaukee, as well as stints in self employment and subcontracting. Melissa has a deep appreciation for the great traditions of stained glass. As she explains, “I have one foot firmly planted in the rich past with the other foot forward into the future of inquisitive explorations.”

- Registration to the 2026 AGG Conference is REQUIRED in order to register for a workshop. - No refunds on workshops, and no switching. - Registration will open on April 18. Workshops are spots are booked on a “first come, first served” basis. ***Scholarship applicants should register and pay for conference and workshop in order to secure a spot, and if applicant is awarded a scholarship, they will be reimbursed for the awarded amount. If you are not awarded a scholarship, you also have the option for a refund in full.***
