Service Description

Wednesday August 5th and Thursday August 6th 9:00AM - 4:30PM GlassRoots Two Day Workshop Description: This two day workshop will provide the foundation for pursuits in fused glass. Participants will learn the basics of compatibility, volume management, firing schedules, kiln basics, and much more. No previous glass experience is required, but if you have done glass already you will learn a new technique that can open up creativity in other directions. Two modest projects will be made illustrating the effects of fusing in different configurations. In addition to fused glass basics, Tony will share tips and stories from his 35 years of kiln forming, both in production and one-offs. This will be a fast paced and informal workshop, with the hopes that you'll leave wanting to dive into warm glass waters. "I have been a glass artist for over 40 years. In 1985, after a stint in the military I transitioned from being an electronics technician to opening my first full-time studio, using my technical background to build kilns and equipment for glass projects. Early on, my work included commissions, restorations, repairs, teaching, and supplying materials. In 1990, I spent time at Camp Colton (Boyce Lundstrom’s school) and Pilchuck, where I learned torchwork, neon, glassblowing, casting, etching, and kilnwork. These experiences inspired me to focus on kiln techniques such as fusing, slumping, and draping. In 1991, I launched a line of kiln-made glass that was sold nationally until 2017. Today, I specialize in stained glass commissions, restorations, painting on glass, 3D kiln experimentation, creating autonomous works, and teaching both at the Corning Museum of Glass Studio and across the country. My passion for learning, perseverance, and hands-on approach to equipment have defined my journey. Even after decades, I remain enthusiastic about glass art, finding ongoing inspiration in the exalted and the mundane. Coffee helps with this and I am never bored."
